Keep booking limits intact when AI shortens a description

A concise directory description can still be wrong if an AI edit removes the words that govern how a customer obtains service.

Shortening is not simply a word-count task. A business description may contain a limitation that changes the entire customer journey: appointments are required, only existing customers can book online, or a particular service is offered on selected days. When AI compresses that text, it can preserve the attractive offering and discard the condition. Review the meaning of the edited version before judging its fluency.

01

Mark the conditions before requesting a draft

Create a short approved facts list containing the service, intended customer, booking route and any condition that must remain visible. Keep the wording specific enough to test. A vague instruction to preserve important information gives the reviewer little basis for deciding what was lost. Do not include private customer records or account credentials in the drafting input.

02

Give the editing task a clear boundary

Ask for a shorter description using only the supplied facts and retaining each booking restriction. Define the available space without demanding an exact length that forces necessary meaning out. The output should be treated as a draft. An instruction followed once does not establish that later edits or alternative versions will preserve the same condition.

03

Compare meaning sentence by sentence

Read the revised description without consulting the original and ask what a new customer would reasonably expect. If the draft implies walk-in service, unrestricted booking or an immediate appointment, compare that implication with the approved facts. A missing qualifier can change the meaning even when every remaining sentence is technically true. Reject unsupported additions rather than editing around them.

04

Test the shortened text with a concrete enquiry

Use a hypothetical customer who falls outside the booking condition. Would the new wording help them understand what to do before travelling or reserving a slot? This is a useful editorial test, not a simulation of actual customer behaviour. If the answer depends on information hidden on another page, decide whether the directory text needs to retain that detail.

05

Approve the final version and its destination

Have the responsible business contact or authorised editor approve the text. Check that the linked booking page follows the same arrangement. Record the approved version and any material change from the AI draft. If another field limit requires further shortening, repeat the meaning check rather than assuming the approved restriction will survive the next pass. A useful revision record keeps the source text, the AI draft and the approved final wording together.

Note the restriction that was lost and how the final version restores it. This helps the next editor avoid requesting another attractive but misleading rewrite. Do not judge success only by whether the draft fits the available characters. The shorter description must still give an outside-condition customer the information needed to choose an appropriate next step before making a booking. For the final read-through, remove the original from view.

Confirm that the edited description alone communicates the condition, then compare it back to the approved facts to catch any change in meaning.
